Vodka & Art
What’s the connection between Exeter International, renowned Russia travel specialists, Stolichnaya, renowned Russian Vodka and Yuri Gorbachev, renowned Russian artist?
Of course we are biased, but we love the art that adorns the covers of our brochures.
Russia - Land of Fairytales
The artist is Yuri Gorbachev (yes, he is a relation to THAT Gorbachev!) who has been living in New York City for many years. Greg Tepper, the President of Exeter International in the United States has been commissioning Yuri to paint beautiful oil on canvas pictures for several years. The oils are then photographed and used as illustrations on the cover of our brochures. I am using our US office brochure cover as our main Facebook picture. I love its fantastical portrayal of St Petersburg – take a look!
My personal favourite has to be the image that we have used for our brochure. On the surface it reminds me of Russian fairytales and depictions on lacquer boxes. Emotionally it reminds me how much I love Russia, the churches, the countryside, the culture of the dacha, and how good a simple life can be. Some vodka, pickles and friends…A holiday to Russia – that’s what I need!
You will find that vodka is a recurring theme in our blogs and we find any excuse to work it in. In this case it’s quite easy. Yuri Gorbachev has designed the GORGEOUS limited edition Stolichnaya (click on the link and you will recognise the distinctive style of the artwork) bottle under the theme, Earth Air, Fire and Water – available in the UK at Gatwick and Heathrow in Duty Free – but not in Russia. So even though it’s like taking coals to Newcastle, when you are on your way to your Moscow or St Petersburg holiday or your holiday further afield on a Russian river cruise, or any holiday to Russia, buy one and bring it home to keep or as a gift.
