Warsaw Holidays

World War II, Chopin and beyond.

Inextricably linked to World War II, much maligned Warsaw has been a city under construction ever since the end of the war.

Your visit to the city would not be complete without a tour of the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising. The museum, which opened on 1 August 2004 to mark the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the fight for Warsaw, is a tribute paid by residents of the city to those who fought and died to bring freedom to Poland and its capital.

Enjoy an atmospheric summer evening in an Old Town café or beer garden: accordion players and free Chopin concerts in Lazienki Park.

Climb to the 30th floor of the Palace of Culture and Science, like one of Moscow’s Seven Sisters on a grander scale for the best views of the city. With an array of museums, theatres and cinemas, there is certainly enough to see.

Visit the Praga district. Once Warsaw’s roughest area it is now aspiring to become Europe’s creative capital. Factories and warehouses have been turned into galleries, restaurants, bars and clubs. Our favourite is the Koneser Factory. Once a vodka distillery it now holds a number of cultural institutions and is home to numerous cultural events. Destined to become a centre of contemporary art, and a significant part of the city’s cultural expression, come and see it before the crowds arrive.

For lovers of Chopin: we can take you to the 17th century Ostrogski Palace, which has been expanded to house the Chopin Museum. Alternatively, travel just outside of Warsaw to Zelazowa Wola, where the composer was born. At weekends there are short Chopin concerts on the charming terrace of the home.
